Director/Registered Builder

Alistair Sawers

Being a registered builder/carpenter for over 14 years, Alistair has worked on, managed and built projects in many remote areas of Australia. Working as a youth on family sheep stations in central South Australia, followed by stints of cattle properties in remote WA, Alistair is no stranger to hard remote working. After school and studies, Alistair took on construction with the majority being remote, including but not limited to, assisting an engineer on railway line work in remote parts of Queensland along with Site project managing Defence, Mining and Government work. During these years, he site managed for Thomas & Coffey and also for Wollams Constructions on multimillion dollar projects. After working a couple years abroad, Alistair then found himself in the Whitsundays and started working as a carpenter on the prestigious Qualia Resort on Hamilton Island. From there, Red Emperor Constructions was created and now have a reputation of providing high class superior construction in the area.

Project/Site Manager

Iain Karon

Iain started with Red Emperor in 2022 to be our leading Project/Site Manager of a large 110 townhouse development in Cannonvale. Prior to his time at Red Emperor, Iain, as a qualified builder, constructed large scale residential houses and completed various renovations. Iain’s carpentry journey started at the young age of 3 years old where he assisted his father in his own carpentry business in England. All his life, Iain knew he would be a builder. He then moved to Australia and completed his carpentry apprenticeship in Bundaberg, working for prestige builders gaining extensive experience in the industry. Iain and his family now live in the Whitsundays and love to go camping and boating in their spare time.

Leading Hand/Site Supervisor (Open)

Ben Hayman

Ben has been with Red Emperor Constructions for over 5 years and within this time has worked on a wide range of projects. He started on large scale insurance repairs following Tropical Cyclone Debbie and from there has been integral to the company using his wide range of skills from plastering, carpentry, and general all-rounder. Previously a restaurant business owner, he has extensive knowledge of commercial kitchens which has been a great asset with refurbishments and repairs over the years for clients. His attention to detail and positive nature have earned him a well respected place amongst other employees and peers alike. Ben and his family live locally and love immersing themselves in the local sporting community.

Chief Operating Officer

Kate Tovey

Originally from the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Kate moved to the Whitsundays approximately 20 years ago in search of new opportunities and experiences. After extensive backgrounds in banking, strata management and hospitality where she was the PA to the General Manager of eight hotels in the area, Kate took the leap and joined Alistair at Red Emperor Constructions in March 2021. Starting as just a basic administration role for a few days a week, Kate’s knowledge and experience quickly transformed this position into the integral part of the business that it is today.

Deb Burfitt

Originally from Adelaide and Melbourne, Deb has been with Red Emperor Constructions since July 2023. With a degree in Marketing, Deb works part time in the office on administration and accounts, ensuring all aspects run smoothly. Her knowledge and life experience have been an asset to the company. When not in the office, Deb enjoys spending time with her family, exploring the Whitsundays and volunteering in the local high school tuck shop.
